Narrative:
I was on duty for a 7-DAY period without a 24 hour break. The first day I deadheaded to a destination and forgot to count it as duty time. I realized it at the end of the 7-DAY period. This was a case of forgetfulness. However the FAA needs to come up with duty regulations that are simpler and more easily applied and understood by pilots. We have a computer tracking our duty and flight time and there are still many gray areas which can be interpreted in as many ways as there are people arguing the point. These regulations should be clear and concise, not vague and easily misunderstood.
