Narrative:
We were hurrying in dtw because maintenance had just given us the aircraft back, 5 mins to go for departure. I was rushed but thought I had checked the necessary preflight items. However, on the ground in sna, the captain receiving the aircraft wanted to look up information in the aircraft operating manual. Apparently the manual had not been placed back in the aircraft before departure. So the flight operated without proper papers on board. A new manual was placed in the aircraft in sna and the return flight continued without incident. In retrospect, more time should have been allowed to make sure all required material was on board. Goes back to old say (pilot) -- 3 things useless to a pilot: runway behind him, altitude above him, and preflight not completely done.

Title: ACFT FLOWN WITHOUT REQUIRED ACFT FLT MANUAL ABOARD.
Narrative: WE WERE HURRYING IN DTW BECAUSE MAINT HAD JUST GIVEN US THE ACFT BACK, 5 MINS TO GO FOR DEP. I WAS RUSHED BUT THOUGHT I HAD CHKED THE NECESSARY PREFLT ITEMS. HOWEVER, ON THE GND IN SNA, THE CAPT RECEIVING THE ACFT WANTED TO LOOK UP INFO IN THE ACFT OPERATING MANUAL. APPARENTLY THE MANUAL HAD NOT BEEN PLACED BACK IN THE ACFT BEFORE DEP. SO THE FLT OPERATED WITHOUT PROPER PAPERS ON BOARD. A NEW MANUAL WAS PLACED IN THE ACFT IN SNA AND THE RETURN FLT CONTINUED WITHOUT INCIDENT. IN RETROSPECT, MORE TIME SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO MAKE SURE ALL REQUIRED MATERIAL WAS ON BOARD. GOES BACK TO OLD SAY (PLT) -- 3 THINGS USELESS TO A PLT: RWY BEHIND HIM, ALT ABOVE HIM, AND PREFLT NOT COMPLETELY DONE.
