Narrative:

During a WX briefing, I was given incorrect information on the WX at our destination. The captain filed and during my briefing before takeoff I was told that the RVR was 2600-5000 ft and therefore we were able to depart to that airport. En route, I tuned in the ATIS and the WX was below minimums and we were then told the WX had been below landing minimums for the past 4 hours. (Was given the briefing only 1 hour before, stating the WX was above minimums.) we immediately flew to our alternate airport without attempting the approach. The only problem is we are not allowed to file IFR to an airport that is below landing minimums. But, our briefing told us that it was above minimums, and the only reason we left was because of bad information from the FSS.

Title: DEPARTED FOR AN ARPT WITH BELOW MINIMUMS WX.

Narrative: DURING A WX BRIEFING, I WAS GIVEN INCORRECT INFO ON THE WX AT OUR DEST. THE CAPT FILED AND DURING MY BRIEFING BEFORE TKOF I WAS TOLD THAT THE RVR WAS 2600-5000 FT AND THEREFORE WE WERE ABLE TO DEPART TO THAT ARPT. ENRTE, I TUNED IN THE ATIS AND THE WX WAS BELOW MINIMUMS AND WE WERE THEN TOLD THE WX HAD BEEN BELOW LNDG MINIMUMS FOR THE PAST 4 HRS. (WAS GIVEN THE BRIEFING ONLY 1 HR BEFORE, STATING THE WX WAS ABOVE MINIMUMS.) WE IMMEDIATELY FLEW TO OUR ALTERNATE ARPT WITHOUT ATTEMPTING THE APCH. THE ONLY PROB IS WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO FILE IFR TO AN ARPT THAT IS BELOW LNDG MINIMUMS. BUT, OUR BRIEFING TOLD US THAT IT WAS ABOVE MINIMUMS, AND THE ONLY REASON WE LEFT WAS BECAUSE OF BAD INFO FROM THE FSS.
