Narrative:
Cancelled IFR at oceanside VOR. Descended to VFR pattern (45 degree entry, right downwind, runway 24) at palomar. Tower extended my downwind (toward high ground) to follow ILS traffic. Long downwind resulted in low overflt of housing located northeast of airport. Downwind to base turn probably 500 ft AGL due to extended downwind. Left 360 degree turn on downwind abeam runway would have avoided possible low flying and/or noise complaint from housing occupants. Next time I will suggest the 360 vice long downwind.
