Narrative:
Lost fuel due to fuel line failure in the engine compartment. Smelled fuel and turned back towards airport. The engine started to lose RPM and quit. At this point I made the decision to put the plane down since it was very level ground along the river bottom and very sparsely populated. On inspection, found a hose clamp that had been over tightened and cut into fuel line. Failure was caused by a sharp burr in the clamp. I was in full control at all times, feel that I made the right decision to land off field.
