Narrative:

Departed dtw for stl on SID. Compliance with irv's placed our aircraft on a 180 degree heading and an altitude of FL260. TCASII RA occurred. 1500 FPM rate of descent initiated on TCASII command. Observed company medium large transport straight ahead (approximately). Began right turn with descent. ATC then instructed us to turn right to a 280 degree heading. Observed 400 ft vertical clearance, approximately 1/4 mi separation or less on TCASII. ATC vague on reason.
