Narrative:
On may/xx/93 I was working the manual position at sector 66 when we were told via printed message that our main system would return at XG00 am and to switch over at that time. We switched over at XG00 am and worked on the primary system for hours (exact hours not known) on an uncertified system and no one told us of the failure to certify the system. Supplemental information from acn 241587: on the morning of may/xx/93, the radar system in prairie area at ZKC was changed to the NAS (rdp) system. The system had not been certified for use. The prairie area stayed on the uncertified system for 2 1/2 hours (XF50 - XI20 local). The problem arose because of information passed in error. The problem was discovered when the rest of the center returned to the NAS system at XI20. I am filing this report because of the ongoing investigation of this event. Supplemental information from acn 241585: although traffic seemed to be depicted as normal during this time, since we were indeed on an uncertified system, there could've been some inaccuracies displayed on the radar scopes.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ARTCC RADAR SECTOR OPERATED IN RDP MODE FOR OVER 2 HRS WHEN THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE OPERATING IN DARC.
Narrative: ON MAY/XX/93 I WAS WORKING THE MANUAL POS AT SECTOR 66 WHEN WE WERE TOLD VIA PRINTED MESSAGE THAT OUR MAIN SYS WOULD RETURN AT XG00 AM AND TO SWITCH OVER AT THAT TIME. WE SWITCHED OVER AT XG00 AM AND WORKED ON THE PRIMARY SYS FOR HRS (EXACT HRS NOT KNOWN) ON AN UNCERTIFIED SYS AND NO ONE TOLD US OF THE FAILURE TO CERTIFY THE SYS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 241587: ON THE MORNING OF MAY/XX/93, THE RADAR SYS IN PRAIRIE AREA AT ZKC WAS CHANGED TO THE NAS (RDP) SYS. THE SYS HAD NOT BEEN CERTIFIED FOR USE. THE PRAIRIE AREA STAYED ON THE UNCERTIFIED SYS FOR 2 1/2 HRS (XF50 - XI20 LCL). THE PROB AROSE BECAUSE OF INFO PASSED IN ERROR. THE PROB WAS DISCOVERED WHEN THE REST OF THE CTR RETURNED TO THE NAS SYS AT XI20. I AM FILING THIS RPT BECAUSE OF THE ONGOING INVESTIGATION OF THIS EVENT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 241585: ALTHOUGH TFC SEEMED TO BE DEPICTED AS NORMAL DURING THIS TIME, SINCE WE WERE INDEED ON AN UNCERTIFIED SYS, THERE COULD'VE BEEN SOME INACCURACIES DISPLAYED ON THE RADAR SCOPES.
