Narrative:
On the date and time stated I was on a flight from pbi to lft under VFR conditions. Leaving the tampa TCA on GR26 to lft I was unaware that I was required to file a DVFR flight plan when penetrating the ADIZ. The tampa TCA asked what my route would be and I informed them GR26 to new orleans then direct. Assuming that was sufficient for clearance to continue with my planned route, I continued. I now understand that a DVFR or IFR flight plan is required to penetrate the ADIZ and will comply with such requirements in any future flts.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SMA PLT CROSSES ADIZ WITHOUT FLT PLAN.
Narrative: ON THE DATE AND TIME STATED I WAS ON A FLT FROM PBI TO LFT UNDER VFR CONDITIONS. LEAVING THE TAMPA TCA ON GR26 TO LFT I WAS UNAWARE THAT I WAS REQUIRED TO FILE A DVFR FLT PLAN WHEN PENETRATING THE ADIZ. THE TAMPA TCA ASKED WHAT MY RTE WOULD BE AND I INFORMED THEM GR26 TO NEW ORLEANS THEN DIRECT. ASSUMING THAT WAS SUFFICIENT FOR CLRNC TO CONTINUE WITH MY PLANNED RTE, I CONTINUED. I NOW UNDERSTAND THAT A DVFR OR IFR FLT PLAN IS REQUIRED TO PENETRATE THE ADIZ AND WILL COMPLY WITH SUCH REQUIREMENTS IN ANY FUTURE FLTS.
