Narrative:

The final landing of an IFR final stage check was when the incident occurred. I am a privately licensed pilot pursuing a commercial certificate with an instrument rating. Wanting to excel in the oral examination portion of my stage check, I made the mistake of not getting the necessary sleep required to be competent during the flight. Knowing this, I elected to continue the flight after what I felt was an excellent performance in a quite lengthy oral. My performance was obviously below normal. After several instrument approachs, we began the last which was an NDB circling approach. Abeam the numbers, and with the aid of a checklist, I began a preparation for a descent. On final, my instructor asked me if I could see a gear as we had a gear down and locked indication. I confirmed this. After touchdown I began to move the gear handle up in the small aircraft. My instructor immediately moved the handle to the down position but the aircraft had already touched down, bending the propeller and denting the gear doors. He shut the aircraft down with no injuries, fires, or other damage. Maintenance arrived quickly, extended the gear. The aircraft was removed from the runway which was not closed.

ON FINAL, MY INSTRUCTOR ASKED ME IF I COULD SEE A GEAR AS WE HAD A GEAR DOWN AND LOCKED INDICATION. I CONFIRMED THIS. AFTER TOUCHDOWN I BEGAN TO MOVE THE GEAR HANDLE UP IN THE SMA. MY INSTRUCTOR IMMEDIATELY MOVED THE HANDLE TO THE DOWN POS BUT THE ACFT HAD ALREADY TOUCHED DOWN, BENDING THE PROP AND DENTING THE GEAR DOORS. HE SHUT THE ACFT DOWN WITH NO INJURIES, FIRES, OR OTHER DAMAGE. MAINT ARRIVED QUICKLY, EXTENDED THE GEAR. THE ACFT WAS REMOVED FROM THE RWY WHICH WAS NOT CLOSED.
