Narrative:
While 6 mi east of W98, obtained active runway on CTAF. Entered left downwind at traffic pattern altitude (1000 ft MSL) and flew normal pattern announcing each leg on CTAF. Did not observe other traffic or hear announcements over CTAF. On 3/4 mi final, a trainer turned base to final 1/4 mi ahead of me, forcing me to go around.
