Narrative:
PIC filed instrument flight plan from hou to jso, secured WX brief from hou FSS, but did not get full briefing. Upon arrival and cancellation at jso, was advised by unicom that runway was closed due to small hole at center of field on left side of runway. Unicom operator suggested a possible landing on first half of runway. After consulting flight manual adequate runway was available. Ground crew removed red cones from around hole in runway and removed X from approach end. Uneventful landing was made on less than 1/2 the runway, and thereafter a safe departure was made. Lesson to be learned: get full briefing from FSS so will automatically get field NOTAMS.
