Narrative:
Departed bur, climbing to 13000 ft and on initial heading of 210 degrees, we were cleared to turn right to a heading of 300 degrees. In turn we were advised that a small aircraft had a visual on us and that it was going to maintain visual separation from us. We were turning into sun, in hazy conditions and consequently could not get a visual on traffic. At approximately 5000 ft TCASII TA turned to RA, commanding descent. We followed RA (advised ATC of same). At approximately 4600 ft RA warning stopped. At about same time we had visual on traffic (small single). It appeared above and in right turn (we were in bank). Once we were in clear, resumed climb. Remainder of flight normal.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: POTENTIAL CONFLICT LESSENED AS TCASII RA ISSUED TO FLC OF DEP TFC, AN ACR MLG. TA GIVEN ON SMA, VFR, WHO WAS TO MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION FROM ACR X WHO WAS CLBING TURNING TFC.
Narrative: DEPARTED BUR, CLBING TO 13000 FT AND ON INITIAL HDG OF 210 DEGS, WE WERE CLRED TO TURN R TO A HDG OF 300 DEGS. IN TURN WE WERE ADVISED THAT A SMALL ACFT HAD A VISUAL ON US AND THAT IT WAS GOING TO MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION FROM US. WE WERE TURNING INTO SUN, IN HAZY CONDITIONS AND CONSEQUENTLY COULD NOT GET A VISUAL ON TFC. AT APPROX 5000 FT TCASII TA TURNED TO RA, COMMANDING DSCNT. WE FOLLOWED RA (ADVISED ATC OF SAME). AT APPROX 4600 FT RA WARNING STOPPED. AT ABOUT SAME TIME WE HAD VISUAL ON TFC (SMALL SINGLE). IT APPEARED ABOVE AND IN R TURN (WE WERE IN BANK). ONCE WE WERE IN CLR, RESUMED CLB. REMAINDER OF FLT NORMAL.
