Narrative:
On descent to 5000 ft on approach to srq we were issued traffic 6500 ft, 12 O'clock. We were reclred to maintain 7000 ft. We had traffic 12 O'clock, 500 ft below us on TCASII. We were visually looking for traffic when a TCASII RA sounded 'climb, climb, climb.' PF immediately disconnected autoplt and cleared visually the airspace above us while smoothly adjusted the aircraft's vertical rate so as to keep the vsi needle just outside the red area of the vsi. We deviated from the assigned altitude of 7000 ft to around 7400 ft. TCASII sounded 'monitor vertical speed' then 'clear of conflict.' we notified ATC after we smoothly returned to assigned altitude per flight operations manual. At no time did we ever see traffic. TCASII showed traffic 300 ft low on warning.

Title: ALTDEV ALT OVERSHOT EXCURSION IN DSCNT. POTENTIAL CONFLICT AVOIDED BY FLC RESPONSE TO TCASII RA.
Narrative: ON DSCNT TO 5000 FT ON APCH TO SRQ WE WERE ISSUED TFC 6500 FT, 12 O'CLOCK. WE WERE RECLRED TO MAINTAIN 7000 FT. WE HAD TFC 12 O'CLOCK, 500 FT BELOW US ON TCASII. WE WERE VISUALLY LOOKING FOR TFC WHEN A TCASII RA SOUNDED 'CLB, CLB, CLB.' PF IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECTED AUTOPLT AND CLRED VISUALLY THE AIRSPACE ABOVE US WHILE SMOOTHLY ADJUSTED THE ACFT'S VERT RATE SO AS TO KEEP THE VSI NEEDLE JUST OUTSIDE THE RED AREA OF THE VSI. WE DEVIATED FROM THE ASSIGNED ALT OF 7000 FT TO AROUND 7400 FT. TCASII SOUNDED 'MONITOR VERT SPD' THEN 'CLR OF CONFLICT.' WE NOTIFIED ATC AFTER WE SMOOTHLY RETURNED TO ASSIGNED ALT PER FLT OPS MANUAL. AT NO TIME DID WE EVER SEE TFC. TCASII SHOWED TFC 300 FT LOW ON WARNING.
