Narrative:
I am the pilot of an early small aircraft with no electrical system. On jul/fri/93, I was on a cross country trip from lyons, ks, to clark, sd. I waited at york, northeast, for VFR WX. With the assistance of the york airport manager, I read on their WX system that visibility and ceiling along my route were improving and would allow me to fly VFR on to clark, sd. I departed york at approximately XY00 am and did have VFR conditions to just south of the platte river and columbus, northeast. At XY46 I flew north approximately 5 mi with limited visibility and ceiling, at which time I turned south. I had no previous plans to land at columbus. I considered the need to find a landing strip an emergency. With little time to look up frequencys, with columbus in sight, I called columbus unicom. I informed them that I would be crossing over runway 32 and would enter a left downwind for runway 14. Columbus unicom answered with field wind and direction and no other traffic. Downwind, base and final were standard procedure on runway 14. Airport manager told me I had entered IFR controled airspace without clearance. At columbus I was interviewed by phone by FAA investigator. He acknowledged my inquiry and told me the number of this form.
