Narrative:
After takeoff on runway 32L at ord, we made what we thought was a proper left turn. Shortly we were informed by ord tower that we had been instructed to make a right turn. Our readback repeated the assigned heading, but no direction of turn. I believe the cause of the confusion to be us finishing the challenge and response checklist at the same time the controller unexpectedly issued takeoff clearance with turn out instructions -- all as we were taking position on the runway. Possible solutions: change company procedures to have checklist completely done before taking active. Have controllers issue takeoff clearance either 1) prior to taking active, or 2) while static in position on runway while we are moving into position on runway. While we are moving into position on runway, we are busy steering aircraft and finishing checklist. Have controllers demand complete readback for all important instructions.

Title: LGT FLC TURNS WRONG DIRECTION AFTER TKOF.
Narrative: AFTER TKOF ON RWY 32L AT ORD, WE MADE WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS A PROPER L TURN. SHORTLY WE WERE INFORMED BY ORD TWR THAT WE HAD BEEN INSTRUCTED TO MAKE A R TURN. OUR READBACK REPEATED THE ASSIGNED HDG, BUT NO DIRECTION OF TURN. I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF THE CONFUSION TO BE US FINISHING THE CHALLENGE AND RESPONSE CHKLIST AT THE SAME TIME THE CTLR UNEXPECTEDLY ISSUED TKOF CLRNC WITH TURN OUT INSTRUCTIONS -- ALL AS WE WERE TAKING POS ON THE RWY. POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS: CHANGE COMPANY PROCS TO HAVE CHKLIST COMPLETELY DONE BEFORE TAKING ACTIVE. HAVE CTLRS ISSUE TKOF CLRNC EITHER 1) PRIOR TO TAKING ACTIVE, OR 2) WHILE STATIC IN POS ON RWY WHILE WE ARE MOVING INTO POS ON RWY. WHILE WE ARE MOVING INTO POS ON RWY, WE ARE BUSY STEERING ACFT AND FINISHING CHKLIST. HAVE CTLRS DEMAND COMPLETE READBACK FOR ALL IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS.
