Narrative:

Another commercial pilot and myself were scheduled to perform a series of multiple sightseeing rides for 15 people which originated from lake in the hills airport. During the series of flts, our passenger requested operating within relative proximity for the reason of photography. As each flight progressed we continued to operate in close proximity until we were in formation flight. Once we realized that we were in formation flight and for compensation violating far 91.111(C), we stopped. Then continued on separate courses back to the airport. Circumstances that lead to the occurrence were pleasing the customers, safely flying the aircraft and then applying the relevant FARS to the situation. The correct sequence should be safely flying the aircraft, adhering to the FARS, then satisfying the customers.
