Narrative:

Tailskid contacted runway during takeoff from dtw runway 21R on flight of jul/sat/93. Takeoff was made as per MEL, and weight manual at flaps 5 degrees, reduced thrust. First officer was flying aircraft. Rotation was begun at proper time at a rate proper for flaps 15 degrees, but excessive for flaps 5 degrees. I was unable to slow the rotation rate before aircraft lifted off, followed by tailskid contact. After gear retraction, tailskid light on so panel remained illuminated. Followed book procedures, noted expected fuel burn increase, shut off water to rear aircraft drains. Notified dispatch maintenance and made logbook entry. I had no reason to doubt aircraft airworthiness. Operated flight to msp normally.

Title: LGT HAS TAIL STRIKE ON TKOF.

Narrative: TAILSKID CONTACTED RWY DURING TKOF FROM DTW RWY 21R ON FLT OF JUL/SAT/93. TKOF WAS MADE AS PER MEL, AND WT MANUAL AT FLAPS 5 DEGS, REDUCED THRUST. FO WAS FLYING ACFT. ROTATION WAS BEGUN AT PROPER TIME AT A RATE PROPER FOR FLAPS 15 DEGS, BUT EXCESSIVE FOR FLAPS 5 DEGS. I WAS UNABLE TO SLOW THE ROTATION RATE BEFORE ACFT LIFTED OFF, FOLLOWED BY TAILSKID CONTACT. AFTER GEAR RETRACTION, TAILSKID LIGHT ON SO PANEL REMAINED ILLUMINATED. FOLLOWED BOOK PROCS, NOTED EXPECTED FUEL BURN INCREASE, SHUT OFF WATER TO REAR ACFT DRAINS. NOTIFIED DISPATCH MAINT AND MADE LOGBOOK ENTRY. I HAD NO REASON TO DOUBT ACFT AIRWORTHINESS. OPERATED FLT TO MSP NORMALLY.
