Narrative:
Small aircraft X single engine land cleared for departure runway 4R with vectored right turn to heading of 140. Encountered small aircraft single engine land turbine helicopter (black in color, did not record north number) at approximately 500 ft AGL opposite direction. Small aircraft X had helicopter in sight at 1/4 to 1/2 mi distance at first sighting. Small aircraft X had to execute 50 degree right bank to avoid helicopter. Near miss of less than 200 ft horizontal distance -- close enough to be hit with moderate turbulence from helicopter propeller wash. There was no advisory from tower controller (118.1) of approaching aircraft. Small aircraft X pilot made no report of near miss to ATC tower or departure controllers. Near miss occurred because helicopter may not have been on assigned heading or altitude or that ATC did not advise small aircraft or helicopter of approaching traffic.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC BTWN AN SMA SINGLE ENG LAND AND AN SMA HELI ACFT IN VFR IN BUSY ARPT ATA.
Narrative: SMA X SINGLE ENG LAND CLRED FOR DEP RWY 4R WITH VECTORED R TURN TO HDG OF 140. ENCOUNTERED SMA SINGLE ENG LAND TURBINE HELI (BLACK IN COLOR, DID NOT RECORD N NUMBER) AT APPROX 500 FT AGL OPPOSITE DIRECTION. SMA X HAD HELI IN SIGHT AT 1/4 TO 1/2 MI DISTANCE AT FIRST SIGHTING. SMA X HAD TO EXECUTE 50 DEG R BANK TO AVOID HELI. NEAR MISS OF LESS THAN 200 FT HORIZ DISTANCE -- CLOSE ENOUGH TO BE HIT WITH MODERATE TURB FROM HELI PROP WASH. THERE WAS NO ADVISORY FROM TWR CTLR (118.1) OF APCHING ACFT. SMA X PLT MADE NO RPT OF NEAR MISS TO ATC TWR OR DEP CTLRS. NEAR MISS OCCURRED BECAUSE HELI MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ON ASSIGNED HDG OR ALT OR THAT ATC DID NOT ADVISE SMA OR HELI OF APCHING TFC.
