Narrative:

No clearance was received prior to takeoff. Departure did not receive transponder code after takeoff. The captain and I did not realize we had not obtained the clearance. The captain called clearance at approximately 5000 ft MSL and received the clearance. Both pilots need to verify clearance on ground. Poor crew communication.

Narrative: NO CLRNC WAS RECEIVED PRIOR TO TKOF. DEP DID NOT RECEIVE XPONDER CODE AFTER TKOF. THE CAPT AND I DID NOT REALIZE WE HAD NOT OBTAINED THE CLRNC. THE CAPT CALLED CLRNC AT APPROX 5000 FT MSL AND RECEIVED THE CLRNC. BOTH PLTS NEED TO VERIFY CLRNC ON GND. POOR CREW COM.
