Narrative:

Operating as a revenue flight (air carrier) from sea to pdx we had a near miss. We had been cleared for the mill visual approach to 28R sidestep 28L. We were to follow an air carrier 2 (medium large transport) at 12 to 1 O'clock. We were at 4000 ft when I saw the medium large transport at 1 O'clock at the same time I saw the orange and white small aircraft single engine land in the clear view window. The captain was flying at the time. When I saw the small aircraft I grabbed the yoke and started to roll left. There was no time to add power and start a climb. I called approach control, told them what happened. They said they had nothing on radar, however, we believe an air carrier Z a couple of mi behind us said they had the traffic on their TCASII.
