Narrative:
I departed ptk, was told to contact detroit approach for VFR flight advisories. When the relay for the microphone quit, making it unable to broadcast, I tried a second time but was unable to communicate. Was approximately 7 mi east of ptk. Turned back for the airport at 3000 ft. I then squawked 7700-7600- 7700-7600. Stayed well north of left downwind for runway 9R, the same runway I departed. Looked for light gun signals, did not see any. Looked for traffic, there wasn't any. Entered pattern and landed safely.
