Narrative:
Aircraft en route iphn (port huron, mi) to htl (houghton lake, mi). Thunderstorm at htl required diversion to tvc. ZMP cleared aircraft to ILS runway 26 approach. Tower contact was established. Aircraft established on localizer. Reported passing OM (gwinn). Inside OM aircraft deflected below GS by winds. Before recovery, aircraft passed through tree tops. Landing was accomplished normally on runway 26 (tvc) without further difficulty. Inspection of aircraft showed skin damage to right wing forward edge, left wing tip skin wrinkle, right elevator skin wrinkling. Pilot was attempting to correct altitude and was watching panel instruments. There was ground contact (passenger could see ground) at time of incident and saw the trees. Pilot then made sharp correction and just hit the tree tops. Bad WX had made passenger very nervous and she was crying. This was distracting. Another factor was the WX which was unanticipated. Neither ATC nor saginaw (mbs) approach could detect WX on their respective radars and NWS had earlier advised that severe WX had passed by htl earlier, moving out of line of flight.

Title: SMA ON ILS APCH HITS TREES AFTER OM.
Narrative: ACFT ENRTE IPHN (PORT HURON, MI) TO HTL (HOUGHTON LAKE, MI). TSTM AT HTL REQUIRED DIVERSION TO TVC. ZMP CLRED ACFT TO ILS RWY 26 APCH. TWR CONTACT WAS ESTABLISHED. ACFT ESTABLISHED ON LOC. RPTED PASSING OM (GWINN). INSIDE OM ACFT DEFLECTED BELOW GS BY WINDS. BEFORE RECOVERY, ACFT PASSED THROUGH TREE TOPS. LNDG WAS ACCOMPLISHED NORMALLY ON RWY 26 (TVC) WITHOUT FURTHER DIFFICULTY. INSPECTION OF ACFT SHOWED SKIN DAMAGE TO R WING FORWARD EDGE, L WING TIP SKIN WRINKLE, R ELEVATOR SKIN WRINKLING. PLT WAS ATTEMPTING TO CORRECT ALT AND WAS WATCHING PANEL INSTS. THERE WAS GND CONTACT (PAX COULD SEE GND) AT TIME OF INCIDENT AND SAW THE TREES. PLT THEN MADE SHARP CORRECTION AND JUST HIT THE TREE TOPS. BAD WX HAD MADE PAX VERY NERVOUS AND SHE WAS CRYING. THIS WAS DISTRACTING. ANOTHER FACTOR WAS THE WX WHICH WAS UNANTICIPATED. NEITHER ATC NOR SAGINAW (MBS) APCH COULD DETECT WX ON THEIR RESPECTIVE RADARS AND NWS HAD EARLIER ADVISED THAT SEVERE WX HAD PASSED BY HTL EARLIER, MOVING OUT OF LINE OF FLT.
