Narrative:
Missed 2 approachs into anb because of ground fog. Requested clearance to atl (our next destination.) shortly thereafter we got the atl ATIS, calling it 1/8 mi in fog. The forecast was good and the previous sequence report had been adequate. This was a situation where I should have checked atl WX before requesting to go there. It never occurred to me to check it, next time it will! The RVR was greater than 6000 ft so we had no problem getting in, but I felt bad about being so sloppy.
