Narrative:
Cpr X was swbound, level FL260. Cpr Y inbound to dca checked on descending to FL350. I cleared cpr Y direct esl, cross 25 mi northwest esl at FL290. Cpr Y read back FL250 and I missed it. I frequency changed cpr Y to next sector. About 1 1/2 mins later the conflict alert activated. Attempts to call next sector failed.
