Narrative:

Cruise FL180 oil temperature went from yellow arc to above redline. After discussion with dispatch and maintenance control, we elected to do a precautionary shutdown of right engine. Emergency declared -- aircraft landed at sbn without any problems. We had good communication between dispatch and maintenance control. Cockpit resource management with crew was excellent. My only comment is that we are not trained in single engine approachs during VFR conditions. Visual cues are very different than during a normal landing (due to a 25 degree flap setting and higher nose attitude). I would suggest this be added to a simulator session.
