Narrative:

On climb out from btr to mob, #1 engine temperature began to climb toward unacceptable levels. Crew contacted atl radio to discuss problem and consider options due to lack of available maintenance at mob. As engine reached 158 degree C (2 degree below red line), captain elected to divert to msy 50 DME away vice continuing to mob at 60 DME. Decision was made not to secure the #1 engine as its temperature was brought under control and remained well below temperature red line. Decision to divert was made promptly due to relatively light fuel load as well as proximity of msy. Engine temperature was in yellow on climb, near yellow cruise, high yellow at idle.
