Narrative:
Had 250 KT speed restr in clearance. Passing 10000 ft, captain, who was flying aircraft, started to accelerate. I asked ATC if speed restr was still needed. ATC affirmed and captain pulled nose up to reduce speed. I had called out '11 for 12' just before my call to ATC. At 12000 ft I called out '12000 ft' but aircraft overshot by 500 ft before we returned to level flight. Captain was hand flying with flight director on but did not follow commands. Captain is new to large transport twin from large transport 3 engine. By pulling up nose, captain increased climb rate to greater than 4000 FPM, way too fast for smooth level off. Captain probably not used to extremely high performance of light (168000 pounds) twin large transport. I was talking to ATC during level off, my call could have been delayed until after level off. Also, captain very hesitant to use autoflt, probably because he was flying 3 engine lgts prior. I think new generation aircraft should have program changes to climb at 1000 FPM for last 1000 ft in climb.

Title: SPD ALTDEV ALT OVERSHOT IN CLB IN LGT FMC TYPE ACFT.
Narrative: HAD 250 KT SPD RESTR IN CLRNC. PASSING 10000 FT, CAPT, WHO WAS FLYING ACFT, STARTED TO ACCELERATE. I ASKED ATC IF SPD RESTR WAS STILL NEEDED. ATC AFFIRMED AND CAPT PULLED NOSE UP TO REDUCE SPD. I HAD CALLED OUT '11 FOR 12' JUST BEFORE MY CALL TO ATC. AT 12000 FT I CALLED OUT '12000 FT' BUT ACFT OVERSHOT BY 500 FT BEFORE WE RETURNED TO LEVEL FLT. CAPT WAS HAND FLYING WITH FLT DIRECTOR ON BUT DID NOT FOLLOW COMMANDS. CAPT IS NEW TO LGT TWIN FROM LGT 3 ENG. BY PULLING UP NOSE, CAPT INCREASED CLB RATE TO GREATER THAN 4000 FPM, WAY TOO FAST FOR SMOOTH LEVEL OFF. CAPT PROBABLY NOT USED TO EXTREMELY HIGH PERFORMANCE OF LIGHT (168000 LBS) TWIN LGT. I WAS TALKING TO ATC DURING LEVEL OFF, MY CALL COULD HAVE BEEN DELAYED UNTIL AFTER LEVEL OFF. ALSO, CAPT VERY HESITANT TO USE AUTOFLT, PROBABLY BECAUSE HE WAS FLYING 3 ENG LGTS PRIOR. I THINK NEW GENERATION ACFT SHOULD HAVE PROGRAM CHANGES TO CLB AT 1000 FPM FOR LAST 1000 FT IN CLB.
