Narrative:
I flew my aircraft with no current weight and balance from linden, nj, to lincoln park airport (avionics shop) for GPS installation. GPS was installed and 337 form was given to me to carry to FAA office (FSDO-25 teterboro, nj) to be signed by airworthiness inspector. 337 form was not signed, the aircraft which I flew from lincoln to teb was not airworthy due to 337 form was not signed and I flew aircraft. The same day we corrected weight and balance and I have a new correct weight and balance. I flew the aircraft to linden airport on the ferry permit issued by teb FSDO-25. Next day, I bring the new weight and balance and 337 form to office FSDO-25 where I am working as an operations inspector (air carrier) which was stamped and approved by FAA and checked by supervisor. He agreed that everything is ok but because I flew aircraft without correct weight and balance, they have to follow up and file violation. I didn't know that my weight and balance was not correct and I wasn't told by avionics technician that I couldn't take the aircraft if 337 form is not signed.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF AN SMA SEL ACFT INADVERTENTLY OPERATED ACFT WHEN IT DID NOT HAVE A CURRENT WT AND BAL AND A SIGNED ALTERATION FORM 337.
Narrative: I FLEW MY ACFT WITH NO CURRENT WT AND BAL FROM LINDEN, NJ, TO LINCOLN PARK ARPT (AVIONICS SHOP) FOR GPS INSTALLATION. GPS WAS INSTALLED AND 337 FORM WAS GIVEN TO ME TO CARRY TO FAA OFFICE (FSDO-25 TETERBORO, NJ) TO BE SIGNED BY AIRWORTHINESS INSPECTOR. 337 FORM WAS NOT SIGNED, THE ACFT WHICH I FLEW FROM LINCOLN TO TEB WAS NOT AIRWORTHY DUE TO 337 FORM WAS NOT SIGNED AND I FLEW ACFT. THE SAME DAY WE CORRECTED WT AND BAL AND I HAVE A NEW CORRECT WT AND BAL. I FLEW THE ACFT TO LINDEN ARPT ON THE FERRY PERMIT ISSUED BY TEB FSDO-25. NEXT DAY, I BRING THE NEW WT AND BAL AND 337 FORM TO OFFICE FSDO-25 WHERE I AM WORKING AS AN OPS INSPECTOR (ACR) WHICH WAS STAMPED AND APPROVED BY FAA AND CHKED BY SUPVR. HE AGREED THAT EVERYTHING IS OK BUT BECAUSE I FLEW ACFT WITHOUT CORRECT WT AND BAL, THEY HAVE TO FOLLOW UP AND FILE VIOLATION. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT MY WT AND BAL WAS NOT CORRECT AND I WASN'T TOLD BY AVIONICS TECHNICIAN THAT I COULDN'T TAKE THE ACFT IF 337 FORM IS NOT SIGNED.
