Narrative:
Received VFR clearance from wichita clearance delivery, cleared to 3000 ft, departure frequency 130.8, squawk wxyz. Departed wichita on runway 19L ahead of aircraft. Further cleared by tower to turn to 155 degree heading after takeoff. Went to departure control at 2400 ft and gave traffic at 12 O'clock, 5 mi at 3500 ft. No visual contact on traffic. At about 3000 ft contact was made with high wing single small aircraft northbound. Was 200-300 ft below and 200-300 ft to right. Made turn to right and stopped climb. Small aircraft climbed and turned right. Departure control called and asked if contact was made with other airplane. Response was positive and that aircraft had passed by. I continued climb to 7500 ft MSL and on 155 degree heading. No other radio contact by control. I called departure control 45 mi south and asked for squawk code change and was given 1200. On recall, I do not remember receiving a clearance from 3000 ft to 7500 ft. Controller did not radio any further instructions. I may have busted altitude restr on clearance.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PVT PLT OF AN SMA SEL ACFT OVERSHOT ASSIGNED ALT DURING CLBOUT UNDER AN ARSA VFR CLRNC. IN ADDITION, NMAC WITH ANOTHER ACFT DURING CLB.
Narrative: RECEIVED VFR CLRNC FROM WICHITA CLRNC DELIVERY, CLRED TO 3000 FT, DEP FREQ 130.8, SQUAWK WXYZ. DEPARTED WICHITA ON RWY 19L AHEAD OF ACFT. FURTHER CLRED BY TWR TO TURN TO 155 DEG HDG AFTER TKOF. WENT TO DEP CTL AT 2400 FT AND GAVE TFC AT 12 O'CLOCK, 5 MI AT 3500 FT. NO VISUAL CONTACT ON TFC. AT ABOUT 3000 FT CONTACT WAS MADE WITH HIGH WING SINGLE SMA NBOUND. WAS 200-300 FT BELOW AND 200-300 FT TO R. MADE TURN TO R AND STOPPED CLB. SMA CLBED AND TURNED R. DEP CTL CALLED AND ASKED IF CONTACT WAS MADE WITH OTHER AIRPLANE. RESPONSE WAS POSITIVE AND THAT ACFT HAD PASSED BY. I CONTINUED CLB TO 7500 FT MSL AND ON 155 DEG HDG. NO OTHER RADIO CONTACT BY CTL. I CALLED DEP CTL 45 MI S AND ASKED FOR SQUAWK CODE CHANGE AND WAS GIVEN 1200. ON RECALL, I DO NOT REMEMBER RECEIVING A CLRNC FROM 3000 FT TO 7500 FT. CTLR DID NOT RADIO ANY FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. I MAY HAVE BUSTED ALT RESTR ON CLRNC.
