Narrative:

After takeoff at 1000 ft AGL, first officer looked around for copy of pre departure clearance. We had left it in the gate house. As soon as we were handed over to departure, we confirmed our routing. Departure had a record of our flight plan so we were filed and in the system with no changes, but we should have had all of our paper work. My only excuse is, this was an exceptional first officer and so I had begun to rely on him and gotten a bit lazy in backing him up.
