Narrative:
On J-91 near johnn intersection at FL310 encountered severe turbulence while in climb deviating thunderstorms. Nearest cell painted on radar 35 mi west. Vertical oscillation lasted approximately 7-10 seconds with altitude variations of plus/minus 200 ft and airspeed deviation plus/minus 30 KTS at .78 mach. Seat belt sign was on and all passenger seated. Prior to this, only very light turbulence was encountered. On landing bna, 2 flight attendants and 2 passenger went to the hospital for examinations.
