Narrative:
During preflight inspection of aircraft log I noticed the following entry: 'flight control light on master caution annunciator inoperative.' the corrective action entry: 'svced APU with 2 quarts oil, light no longer illuminated.' when I checked the flight control light I found that it was still inoperative. The aircraft had been flown for 4 days in this condition. Maintenance was notified and this item was placed on MEL for my flight. Supplemental information from acn 254403: on oct/xy/93 I flew as captain on flight clt-lga. I found out later this aircraft had an improper logbook writeoff on oct/xx/93. I recommend that in the future more checks and balances be placed on logbook writeoffs.

Narrative: DURING PREFLT INSPECTION OF ACFT LOG I NOTICED THE FOLLOWING ENTRY: 'FLT CTL LIGHT ON MASTER CAUTION ANNUNCIATOR INOP.' THE CORRECTIVE ACTION ENTRY: 'SVCED APU WITH 2 QUARTS OIL, LIGHT NO LONGER ILLUMINATED.' WHEN I CHKED THE FLT CTL LIGHT I FOUND THAT IT WAS STILL INOP. THE ACFT HAD BEEN FLOWN FOR 4 DAYS IN THIS CONDITION. MAINT WAS NOTIFIED AND THIS ITEM WAS PLACED ON MEL FOR MY FLT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 254403: ON OCT/XY/93 I FLEW AS CAPT ON FLT CLT-LGA. I FOUND OUT LATER THIS ACFT HAD AN IMPROPER LOGBOOK WRITEOFF ON OCT/XX/93.
