Narrative:

I was on a training flight checking a pilot in an small aircraft. We had gone through turns, MCA and stalls when I pulled the mixture control for simulated engine failure. The pilot slowed the airplane down allowing the propeller to stop before I could do anything about it. I tried to restart the engine with the use of the starter and it would not turn the engine over. I then tried to air start, which I have done on previous occasions with different aircraft, and that failed. I had an airport in sight. But when I got closer to it, I saw that it was crowded with farm equipment and buildings and was afraid it wouldn't be clear. I saw a road close to it that was 2000-3000 ft and no traffic but when I got closer I saw that it was lined with power poles. By this time the only option left was a rice field where we landed. The aircraft nosed over on its back causing unknown amount of damage to aircraft. There were no injuries.

Title: DURING EMER TRAINING MANEUVERS IN SMA, ACTUAL ENG FAILURE OCCURS.

Narrative: I WAS ON A TRAINING FLT CHKING A PLT IN AN SMA. WE HAD GONE THROUGH TURNS, MCA AND STALLS WHEN I PULLED THE MIXTURE CTL FOR SIMULATED ENG FAILURE. I THEN TRIED TO AIR START, WHICH I HAVE DONE ON PREVIOUS OCCASIONS WITH DIFFERENT ACFT, AND THAT FAILED. I HAD AN ARPT IN SIGHT. BUT WHEN I GOT CLOSER TO IT, I SAW THAT IT WAS CROWDED WITH FARM EQUIP AND BUILDINGS AND WAS AFRAID IT WOULDN'T BE CLR. I SAW A ROAD CLOSE TO IT THAT WAS 2000-3000 FT AND NO TFC BUT WHEN I GOT CLOSER I SAW THAT IT WAS LINED WITH PWR POLES. BY THIS TIME THE ONLY OPTION LEFT WAS A RICE FIELD WHERE WE LANDED. THE ACFT NOSED OVER ON ITS BACK CAUSING UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO ACFT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.
