Narrative:

I was flying from the area of Q99 en route to hwd. I was descending from 3500 to 2500 ft. During this time I was obtaining flight following from bay TRACON. I leveled off at 2200 ft, 2.5 NM northeast rhv. The bay TRACON controller told me I was in rhv class D airspace. I reported that I was at 2200 ft. He then said that the class D airspace was 2500 ft. I told him that the most recent chart shows that rhv class D ends at 2000 MSL. He then told me to climb and I did. He then told me he was handing me off to rhv tower. At this point I changed radio frequency to rhv tower. I contacted them and gave my position. I informed them I was VFR to hwd and changed to 1200 code. Rhv acknowledged that fact. I then continued to hwd. I called bay approach later and talked to a supervisor. He said he would look into it. I also called rhv tower to confirm that rhv class D went to 2000 as on charts. The controller confirmed this to be true, due to an error on the chart. I recommend that controllers be informed of the chart error so this will not cause a problem in the future. Callback conversation with bay approach control revealed the following information: call to bay approach control reveals that the reporter was correct and at the proper altitude. Altitude over rhv is 2000 and below, not 2500 ft as the controller stated. The current chart shows the correct altitude. The specialist thinks that the controller was using the old altitude before the reclassification of airspace. There was a crew briefing on this subject last week to all controllers.

Title: SMA PLT TOLD HE WAS IN CLASS D AIRSPACE AT 2200. CHART SHOWS 2000 AS CEILING.

Narrative: I WAS FLYING FROM THE AREA OF Q99 ENRTE TO HWD. I WAS DSNDING FROM 3500 TO 2500 FT. DURING THIS TIME I WAS OBTAINING FLT FOLLOWING FROM BAY TRACON. I LEVELED OFF AT 2200 FT, 2.5 NM NE RHV. THE BAY TRACON CTLR TOLD ME I WAS IN RHV CLASS D AIRSPACE. I RPTED THAT I WAS AT 2200 FT. HE THEN SAID THAT THE CLASS D AIRSPACE WAS 2500 FT. I TOLD HIM THAT THE MOST RECENT CHART SHOWS THAT RHV CLASS D ENDS AT 2000 MSL. HE THEN TOLD ME TO CLB AND I DID. HE THEN TOLD ME HE WAS HANDING ME OFF TO RHV TWR. AT THIS POINT I CHANGED RADIO FREQ TO RHV TWR. I CONTACTED THEM AND GAVE MY POS. I INFORMED THEM I WAS VFR TO HWD AND CHANGED TO 1200 CODE. RHV ACKNOWLEDGED THAT FACT. I THEN CONTINUED TO HWD. I CALLED BAY APCH LATER AND TALKED TO A SUPVR. HE SAID HE WOULD LOOK INTO IT. I ALSO CALLED RHV TWR TO CONFIRM THAT RHV CLASS D WENT TO 2000 AS ON CHARTS. THE CTLR CONFIRMED THIS TO BE TRUE, DUE TO AN ERROR ON THE CHART. I RECOMMEND THAT CTLRS BE INFORMED OF THE CHART ERROR SO THIS WILL NOT CAUSE A PROB IN THE FUTURE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH BAY APCH CTL REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: CALL TO BAY APCH CTL REVEALS THAT THE RPTR WAS CORRECT AND AT THE PROPER ALT. ALT OVER RHV IS 2000 AND BELOW, NOT 2500 FT AS THE CTLR STATED. THE CURRENT CHART SHOWS THE CORRECT ALT. THE SPECIALIST THINKS THAT THE CTLR WAS USING THE OLD ALT BEFORE THE RECLASSIFICATION OF AIRSPACE. THERE WAS A CREW BRIEFING ON THIS SUBJECT LAST WK TO ALL CTLRS.
