Narrative:
We pwred straight back from gate. Guideman gave come forward signal so we came out of reverse to slow our rearward movement. At that time I received clearance for a right turn. Captain received salute from guideman. (Salute is company procedure indicating area is clear.) I cleared area to right then relayed taxi clearance to captain. We began sharp right turn. Then, after about 20 degrees of turn, aircraft stopped. At this point we didn't know why we stopped. Suddenly, many ramp agents began running toward the aircraft. We still didn't know what happened until ramp control advised us that there was a truck underneath our right wing. We completed our shutdown checklist and passenger were deplaned out the rear airstairs. Apparently, a ramp agent pulled up next to the airplane in a pickup truck to put another bag in the baggage compartment, but we were never informed of this nor were we told to stop airplane. After a salute and area is visually cleared by pilots, ground vehicles should not approach a moving airplane. Supplemental information from acn 256324: after we came to a stop, a ramp person started waving his wands for us to stop. We were told a ground vehicle was under the aircraft. What happened was a last min attempt to board some baggage in the forward cargo compartment. Aircraft was moving as truck came under it as witnessed by people on aircraft looking out.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR LGT HIT A TRUCK ON THE RAMP AT THE CONCLUSION OF A PWRBACK OP.
Narrative: WE PWRED STRAIGHT BACK FROM GATE. GUIDEMAN GAVE COME FORWARD SIGNAL SO WE CAME OUT OF REVERSE TO SLOW OUR REARWARD MOVEMENT. AT THAT TIME I RECEIVED CLRNC FOR A R TURN. CAPT RECEIVED SALUTE FROM GUIDEMAN. (SALUTE IS COMPANY PROC INDICATING AREA IS CLR.) I CLRED AREA TO R THEN RELAYED TAXI CLRNC TO CAPT. WE BEGAN SHARP R TURN. THEN, AFTER ABOUT 20 DEGS OF TURN, ACFT STOPPED. AT THIS POINT WE DIDN'T KNOW WHY WE STOPPED. SUDDENLY, MANY RAMP AGENTS BEGAN RUNNING TOWARD THE ACFT. WE STILL DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED UNTIL RAMP CTL ADVISED US THAT THERE WAS A TRUCK UNDERNEATH OUR R WING. WE COMPLETED OUR SHUTDOWN CHKLIST AND PAX WERE DEPLANED OUT THE REAR AIRSTAIRS. APPARENTLY, A RAMP AGENT PULLED UP NEXT TO THE AIRPLANE IN A PICKUP TRUCK TO PUT ANOTHER BAG IN THE BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT, BUT WE WERE NEVER INFORMED OF THIS NOR WERE WE TOLD TO STOP AIRPLANE. AFTER A SALUTE AND AREA IS VISUALLY CLRED BY PLTS, GND VEHICLES SHOULD NOT APCH A MOVING AIRPLANE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 256324: AFTER WE CAME TO A STOP, A RAMP PERSON STARTED WAVING HIS WANDS FOR US TO STOP. WE WERE TOLD A GND VEHICLE WAS UNDER THE ACFT. WHAT HAPPENED WAS A LAST MIN ATTEMPT TO BOARD SOME BAGGAGE IN THE FORWARD CARGO COMPARTMENT. ACFT WAS MOVING AS TRUCK CAME UNDER IT AS WITNESSED BY PEOPLE ON ACFT LOOKING OUT.
