Narrative:

Shortly after accomplishing the after takeoff checklist at approximately 2000 ft AGL, we received a master warning light and the annunciator panel indicated 'tail compartment temperature high' light. We accomplished the emergency checklist. These actions extinguished the light. We notified clt departure and declared an emergency and requested ground equipment as a safety precaution. We requested runway 18R which was the longest runway. ATC handling was good. Maximum landing for an medium large transport is 95300 pounds and our weight at touchdown was 98400. Overweight landing inspection required at weights of 99000 and above. Remainder of flight and landing were uneventful and we ended the emergency after turning off the runway. We requested ground equipment to follow us to the gate.
