Narrative:
Cruising in smooth air at FL370, got a TA with '00' amber in center of ivsi. Almost instantly we got an RA to climb, climb. We began a climb then after about 5 seconds, we got 'increase climb, increase climb' so we pulled harder. After about 5 more seconds, it stopped. We don't remember hearing 'clear of conflict.' we climbed about 800-900 ft during maneuver. We returned to FL370. We never saw or heard or felt anything. 3 passenger and 5 flight attendants sustained minor injuries (scrapes, bruises, bumps, etc). All were in back of aircraft. Seat belt sign was on. 1 passenger in biffy. The TCASII gave a relatively normal sequence of steps for what an actual event might look like, except: the first indication was the TA dead center on screen as opposed to approaching from the edge, the TA switched to RA very fast -- no time to even look.
