Narrative:
We encountered a radio controlled model airplane while executing the lda-a approach to runway 22. Our position was at 2.7 DME on the final approach course at 1200 ft MSL. The model airplane passed slightly below us (maybe 10 ft) and within 50-100 ft horizontal. We took no evasive action due to the short time between sighting and passing the model airplane. It was only a few seconds between identify and passing the model. We reported the sighting to lga tower who advised subsequent aircraft of the model aircraft activity. We landed without incident. It would seem to me that the FCC would have some control over the rules regarding the operation of radio controled models in close proximity to airports. There is a small field used for model flying near the site of our near-miss. In almost 7 yrs of operating into and out of laguardia, this was the first time that I have experienced any conflict or, for that matter, any sightings of models in that area.

Title: AN ACR LTT HAD A NMAC WITH A MODEL ACFT IN THE TFC PATTERN AT LGA.
Narrative: WE ENCOUNTERED A RADIO CONTROLLED MODEL AIRPLANE WHILE EXECUTING THE LDA-A APCH TO RWY 22. OUR POS WAS AT 2.7 DME ON THE FINAL APCH COURSE AT 1200 FT MSL. THE MODEL AIRPLANE PASSED SLIGHTLY BELOW US (MAYBE 10 FT) AND WITHIN 50-100 FT HORIZ. WE TOOK NO EVASIVE ACTION DUE TO THE SHORT TIME BTWN SIGHTING AND PASSING THE MODEL AIRPLANE. IT WAS ONLY A FEW SECONDS BTWN IDENT AND PASSING THE MODEL. WE RPTED THE SIGHTING TO LGA TWR WHO ADVISED SUBSEQUENT ACFT OF THE MODEL ACFT ACTIVITY. WE LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT THE FCC WOULD HAVE SOME CTL OVER THE RULES REGARDING THE OP OF RADIO CTLED MODELS IN CLOSE PROX TO ARPTS.
