Narrative:
On approach to bwi tower cleared us to land. We put the gear down and the left main indicator did not illuminate. We were on a 3.5 mi final. I asked the first officer to cycle the gear once and gear came down and locked with 3 green lights. After landing I looked at the abnormal gear indication checklist but the indications that we had did not match what was on the checklist and the checklist would have directed us to do an alternate gear extension.
