Narrative:
Descending, then leveling at FL240. The ZDC controller advised we had ftr traffic 11 NM at 12 O'clock, climbing to FL230, opposite direction. First received a TA from TCASII followed by an RA 'climb.' at 25200 ft, RA gave maintain level flight. We informed controller we followed the TCASII commands, descended back to FL240. The fast closure rate appears to have activated TCASII RA. We never saw traffic.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR WDB CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII COMMAND.
Narrative: DSNDING, THEN LEVELING AT FL240. THE ZDC CTLR ADVISED WE HAD FTR TFC 11 NM AT 12 O'CLOCK, CLBING TO FL230, OPPOSITE DIRECTION. FIRST RECEIVED A TA FROM TCASII FOLLOWED BY AN RA 'CLB.' AT 25200 FT, RA GAVE MAINTAIN LEVEL FLT. WE INFORMED CTLR WE FOLLOWED THE TCASII COMMANDS, DSNDED BACK TO FL240. THE FAST CLOSURE RATE APPEARS TO HAVE ACTIVATED TCASII RA. WE NEVER SAW TFC.
