Narrative:

While lining the airplane up for takeoff, I got distracted by the first officer who told me that we would not be able to make the 'immediate takeoff' because of the landing traffic. Our landing and taxi lights were off. There are no centerline lights on runway 35. We were tired. It was very dark. He (first officer) told the tower that we would wait for the traffic to land. We waited in position with our lights still out. When we were cleared for takeoff, I started rolling the airplane and suddenly realized that I was not on the centerline but rather on the left edge of the runway. I aborted the takeoff when the left wheel came off the pavement onto the grass, and taxied back to inspect any damage. There was none and we took off without further incident.

Narrative: WHILE LINING THE AIRPLANE UP FOR TKOF, I GOT DISTRACTED BY THE FO WHO TOLD ME THAT WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE THE 'IMMEDIATE TKOF' BECAUSE OF THE LNDG TFC. OUR LNDG AND TAXI LIGHTS WERE OFF. THERE ARE NO CTRLINE LIGHTS ON RWY 35. WE WERE TIRED. IT WAS VERY DARK. HE (FO) TOLD THE TWR THAT WE WOULD WAIT FOR THE TFC TO LAND. WE WAITED IN POS WITH OUR LIGHTS STILL OUT. WHEN WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF, I STARTED ROLLING THE AIRPLANE AND SUDDENLY REALIZED THAT I WAS NOT ON THE CTRLINE BUT RATHER ON THE L EDGE OF THE RWY. I ABORTED THE TKOF WHEN THE L WHEEL CAME OFF THE PAVEMENT ONTO THE GRASS, AND TAXIED BACK TO INSPECT ANY DAMAGE. THERE WAS NONE AND WE TOOK OFF WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
