Narrative:

VFR pleasure flight from myf to psp via the banning pass. ATC service included myf tower, approach control, ont approach, psp approach and tower. We were vectored by psp approach and tower for a right downwind, runways 31R and 31L being used. Copied landing clearance as 31R. Normal approach and landing. On rollout, tower advised landing clearance was for 31L. With vectors for a right downwind, I was expecting 31R and perhaps copied what I expected to hear. On other occasions at psp, when cleared for 31L, I recall flying a left downwind, as is the custom at other airports with parallel runways (myf, for example). No traffic for either runway during landing segment. However, small aircraft 3-5 mi in trail was cleared for 31R. Perhaps I copied his clearance.

WITH VECTORS FOR A R DOWNWIND, I WAS EXPECTING 31R AND PERHAPS COPIED WHAT I EXPECTED TO HEAR. ON OTHER OCCASIONS AT PSP, WHEN CLRED FOR 31L, I RECALL FLYING A L DOWNWIND, AS IS THE CUSTOM AT OTHER ARPTS WITH PARALLEL RWYS (MYF, FOR EXAMPLE). NO TFC FOR EITHER RWY DURING LNDG SEGMENT. HOWEVER, SMA 3-5 MI IN TRAIL WAS CLRED FOR 31R. PERHAPS I COPIED HIS CLRNC.
