Narrative:
Departed reserve, NM, approximately XY00 pm local on VFR flight to scottsdale, az. High overcast condition was unchanged from the morning hours when we arrived from scottsdale, az. Having no phone prohibited getting current WX. Departed to the west and in climbing over the high ground to the west encountered snow showers. Returned to reserve and proceeded north, looking for a way around snow showers. Near luna, snow intensity had increased so decided to return to reserve only to find visibility unacceptable in that direction. Decided to make a precautionary landing on a black top road near luna, NM, rather than go IFR in snow. Successful precautionary landing was made, no damage to aircraft or road signs/wires. Dec/wed/93, next day, local sheriff blocked off road and successful takeoff was made into VFR skies. I believe I encountered a 'micro' WX event in that no snow was reported beyond 20 mi of reserve the day following the event.
