Narrative:
I flew 8 emergency rescue helicopter flts without a valid class ii medical during the month of dec/93 for a hospital based emergency medical program. My previous class I medical was renewed on nov/xx/92. On jan/xx/94, while reading an aviation newsletter published by the local newspaper, I remembered that my class I had become a class III medical. I was able to schedule a flight physical for that afternoon. My employer is in chapter 11 bankruptcy, the person in charge of pilot records recently left the company, and the normal system to alert pilots of upcoming expiration dates is not being used. I have purchased a calendar program for my home computer, which will be configured to notify me well in advance of any future aviation deadline. Now that I have done this once, I won't let it happen again.
