Narrative:
Takeoff alb, ny, snowing, added power for takeoff, heard #2 engine pop (similar to compressor stall). Reduced power to idle. Checked engine for any signs of problems - none noticed. Advanced power slowly to check - all indications normal all the way to full power run up stayed in this condition for approximately 20 seconds. Satisfied engine was performing to specifications commenced takeoff. Approximately 45 mins later in climb out, right engine popped again and shut down. Treated as a precautionary shutdown, as no other indication showing trouble was present (i.e., fire). Did not declare emergency, just asked for diversion to phl -- made normal descent, approach and landing. Inspection of engine showed numerous fan stage and some compressor blade damage. Suspect possible ingestion of foreign object (ice ball) that was indiscernible (by gauge, feel, vibration, etc). Engine gave no warning of impending failure. Hindsight: should have continued to investigate initial pop by returning to gate for further external inspection of engine.

Title: CORP ACFT HAS ENG SHUTDOWN INFLT. DIVERTS.
Narrative: TKOF ALB, NY, SNOWING, ADDED PWR FOR TKOF, HEARD #2 ENG POP (SIMILAR TO COMPRESSOR STALL). REDUCED PWR TO IDLE. CHKED ENG FOR ANY SIGNS OF PROBS - NONE NOTICED. ADVANCED PWR SLOWLY TO CHK - ALL INDICATIONS NORMAL ALL THE WAY TO FULL PWR RUN UP STAYED IN THIS CONDITION FOR APPROX 20 SECONDS. SATISFIED ENG WAS PERFORMING TO SPECS COMMENCED TKOF. APPROX 45 MINS LATER IN CLB OUT, R ENG POPPED AGAIN AND SHUT DOWN. TREATED AS A PRECAUTIONARY SHUTDOWN, AS NO OTHER INDICATION SHOWING TROUBLE WAS PRESENT (I.E., FIRE). DID NOT DECLARE EMER, JUST ASKED FOR DIVERSION TO PHL -- MADE NORMAL DSCNT, APCH AND LNDG. INSPECTION OF ENG SHOWED NUMEROUS FAN STAGE AND SOME COMPRESSOR BLADE DAMAGE. SUSPECT POSSIBLE INGESTION OF FOREIGN OBJECT (ICE BALL) THAT WAS INDISCERNIBLE (BY GAUGE, FEEL, VIBRATION, ETC). ENGINE GAVE NO WARNING OF IMPENDING FAILURE. HINDSIGHT: SHOULD HAVE CONTINUED TO INVESTIGATE INITIAL POP BY RETURNING TO GATE FOR FURTHER EXTERNAL INSPECTION OF ENG.
