Narrative:
In sum: an air carrier crew used up 2 L-1011 aircraft trying unsuccessfully to get to lga from cvg. The first aircraft had an oil filter pressure light on its #3 engine. It aborted 1 takeoff, then had the light come on again at V1. The crew continued the takeoff, shut down the engine, and returned to cvg. The passenger were transferred to another aircraft with their luggage. The second aircraft had a rudder hydraulic limiter light come on. Several attempts were made to fix the problem, to no avail. The flight was finally canceled, but not before the 70 passenger made life difficult for the flight attendants with threats to report this incident to the air carrier ceo and the FAA. The second aircraft had great difficulty being pushed away from the gate due to ice on the ramp. 2 tugs had to be used. This saga all ended in the wee hours of the morning. The captain's flight director did not work properly on the return land portion of this episode.
