Narrative:

After a normal takeoff and at about half way into the climb up to cruise FL330 on (air carrier) airlines flight, the flight attendant advised us of a popping sound and an accompanied air sound in the aft part of the cabin. All system appeared normal until cruise altitude then the cabin pressure started rising. A descent was made and return to jfk. The cabin did not climb above 10000 ft and no emergency was declared, and no one was injured. Aircraft landed normally below maximum landing weight.
