Narrative:
Actin as instructor for aircraft owner undergoing proficiency flying conducted by an air safety foundation. Aircraft involved was a beech bonanza V-35. Whose owner was acting as PIC. Aircraft controlled by a single yoke throw-over column with right seat occupant having access only to rudder pedals. Conducting operation in traffic pattern at leesburg municipal airport. While on base leg to runway 31 entered an undetected area of low visibility (fog). Before corrective action to initiate a go around could be completed, aircraft touched down in lake harris adjacent to airfield. Aircraft stopped in an upright position and evacuate/evacuation made through normal entrance door. No injuries to the 2 personnel on board.

Title: SMA ON BASE LEG ENTERS AREA OF REDUCED VISIBILITY AND SPLASH-LANDS IN AN ADJACENT LAKE.
Narrative: ACTIN AS INSTRUCTOR FOR ACFT OWNER UNDERGOING PROFICIENCY FLYING CONDUCTED BY AN AIR SAFETY FOUNDATION. ACFT INVOLVED WAS A BEECH BONANZA V-35. WHOSE OWNER WAS ACTING AS PIC. ACFT CONTROLLED BY A SINGLE YOKE THROW-OVER COLUMN WITH R SEAT OCCUPANT HAVING ACCESS ONLY TO RUDDER PEDALS. CONDUCTING OP IN TFC PATTERN AT LEESBURG MUNICIPAL ARPT. WHILE ON BASE LEG TO RWY 31 ENTERED AN UNDETECTED AREA OF LOW VISIBILITY (FOG). BEFORE CORRECTIVE ACTION TO INITIATE A GAR COULD BE COMPLETED, ACFT TOUCHED DOWN IN LAKE HARRIS ADJACENT TO AIRFIELD. ACFT STOPPED IN AN UPRIGHT POS AND EVAC MADE THROUGH NORMAL ENTRANCE DOOR. NO INJURIES TO THE 2 PERSONNEL ON BOARD.
