Narrative:

During descent into mbj in contact with kingston center, we were cleared to mbj via the bimba 2 arrival to mobar. Several times kingston center asked for the DME of air carrier B flight befg (we were air carrier a flight bbcd). This flight normally arrives 28 mins after we do. Flight is normally cleared the gonis 3 arrival to mobar. When we switched to sangster approach (120.8) I called the visual approach, and asked to report base. At about 15 mi, sangster approach asked us what was our radial and DME. We replied the 025 degree radial at 15 DME. We also told him we had the departing traffic in sight (air carrier Z on the mbj 010 degree radial, the putul 5B departure). They had been cleared to climb through our altitude. We did not have to maneuver to avoid the traffic but passed 1 1/2 - 2 mi away. In reconstructing the event, we surmised kingston center had misidented us and relayed to sangster approach that we were really air carrier B flight befg. Kingston told sangster we were on the gonis 3 arrival which comes in on the 328 degree radial to 12 DME then the 12 DME arc to the 247 degree radial, mobar (10 DME). Based on this, sangster released air carrier Z via the putul 5B (the mbj 010 degree radial to 15 DME, left 330 degree heading to intercept the mbj 348 degree radial outbound). We were navigating the 025 degree radial inbound on the bimba 2 arrival. Lessons learned: I had air carrier Z on TCASII well before sangster approach became aware of the potential conflict. I could have defused the situation earlier by being more aggressive about the TCASII contact that appeared to be a problem.

Title: 2 INBOUND ACR FLTS OF THE SAME ACR CAUSED SOME CONFUSION IN ARTCC AND TRACON.

Narrative: DURING DSCNT INTO MBJ IN CONTACT WITH KINGSTON CTR, WE WERE CLRED TO MBJ VIA THE BIMBA 2 ARR TO MOBAR. SEVERAL TIMES KINGSTON CTR ASKED FOR THE DME OF ACR B FLT BEFG (WE WERE ACR A FLT BBCD). THIS FLT NORMALLY ARRIVES 28 MINS AFTER WE DO. FLT IS NORMALLY CLRED THE GONIS 3 ARR TO MOBAR. WHEN WE SWITCHED TO SANGSTER APCH (120.8) I CALLED THE VISUAL APCH, AND ASKED TO RPT BASE. AT ABOUT 15 MI, SANGSTER APCH ASKED US WHAT WAS OUR RADIAL AND DME. WE REPLIED THE 025 DEG RADIAL AT 15 DME. WE ALSO TOLD HIM WE HAD THE DEPARTING TFC IN SIGHT (ACR Z ON THE MBJ 010 DEG RADIAL, THE PUTUL 5B DEP). THEY HAD BEEN CLRED TO CLB THROUGH OUR ALT. WE DID NOT HAVE TO MANEUVER TO AVOID THE TFC BUT PASSED 1 1/2 - 2 MI AWAY. IN RECONSTRUCTING THE EVENT, WE SURMISED KINGSTON CTR HAD MISIDENTED US AND RELAYED TO SANGSTER APCH THAT WE WERE REALLY ACR B FLT BEFG. KINGSTON TOLD SANGSTER WE WERE ON THE GONIS 3 ARR WHICH COMES IN ON THE 328 DEG RADIAL TO 12 DME THEN THE 12 DME ARC TO THE 247 DEG RADIAL, MOBAR (10 DME). BASED ON THIS, SANGSTER RELEASED ACR Z VIA THE PUTUL 5B (THE MBJ 010 DEG RADIAL TO 15 DME, L 330 DEG HDG TO INTERCEPT THE MBJ 348 DEG RADIAL OUTBOUND). WE WERE NAVING THE 025 DEG RADIAL INBOUND ON THE BIMBA 2 ARR. LESSONS LEARNED: I HAD ACR Z ON TCASII WELL BEFORE SANGSTER APCH BECAME AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL CONFLICT. I COULD HAVE DEFUSED THE SIT EARLIER BY BEING MORE AGGRESSIVE ABOUT THE TCASII CONTACT THAT APPEARED TO BE A PROB.
