Narrative:
Amber TCASII TA changed to red RA (500 ft below, climbing) 'climb, climb'. First officer climbed in accordance with primary fl;T display directions. We rose to approximately 700 ft above assigned, during which I broadcast on 120.15 (ewr approach) in the blind 'flight xyz is climbing in response to TCASII RA'. Ewr approach control responded in what sounded sarcastic and cavalier to the effect 'you can climb if you want, company name.' we descended back to assigned altitude of 5000 ft and an uneventful approach and landing ensued.

Narrative: AMBER TCASII TA CHANGED TO RED RA (500 FT BELOW, CLBING) 'CLB, CLB'. FO CLBED IN ACCORDANCE WITH PRIMARY FL;T DISPLAY DIRECTIONS. WE ROSE TO APPROX 700 FT ABOVE ASSIGNED, DURING WHICH I BROADCAST ON 120.15 (EWR APCH) IN THE BLIND 'FLT XYZ IS CLBING IN RESPONSE TO TCASII RA'.
